Customer tiers (Silver, Gold, VIP): how to design them
How to design loyalty tiers that motivate customers to come back more: how many levels, what benefits and how to move people up.
In this article5
How many tiers
Two or three. More than that confuses customers and your team. For example: Member, Gold (10 visits a quarter) and VIP (25 visits a quarter).
Benefits that feel special
Double points, a free upgrade, priority booking or early access. Recognition matters as much as discounts: greet VIPs by name.
Keep it fair
Explain how to move up and how long a tier lasts. Avoid dropping customers suddenly; give them time to keep their level.
Practical checklist
- Choose two or three tiers
- Set clear thresholds
- Give each tier one extra benefit
- Show progress on the customer's card
Frequently asked questions
Should tiers be based on spend or visits?
Visits for frequent, low tickets; spend for larger, varied purchases.
Which Trivu plan includes tiers?
Tiers are included from the Grow plan.
